Fiber optic cable patch cord is widely used in communication rooms, home optical fiber, local area networks, optical fiber sensors, optical fiber communication systems, optical fiber connections, transmission equipment, etc. It is suitable for cable TV, telecommunication, computer optical fiber, and optical test equipment.

Ⅰ. Selection of fiber optic cable patch cord

According to the termination type, the fiber optic patch cord types mainly are: ST-ST, SC-SC, and ST-SC. According to the kind of optical fiber, there are mainly single-mode optical fiber and multimode optical fiber.

The fiber optic cable patch cord length specifications include 0.5m, 1m, 2m, 3m, 5m, 10m, etc.

According to the material of outer cable sheath, it can be divided into ordinary type, ordinary flame retardant type, low smoke halogen-free type (lzsh), low smoke halogen-free flame retardant type, etc. According to the fire rating of buildings and fire resistance requirements for materials, corresponding measures shall be taken for the generic cabling system.

Flame retardant cables and optical cables shall be used for laying cables or optical cables in flammable areas and building shafts. Flame retardant, low smoke, and low toxicity cables or optical cables should be used in large public places; Flame retardant wiring equipment shall be used in adjacent equipment rooms or handover rooms.

Ⅱ. How to check whether the fiber optic patch cord is qualified

Firstly, use the light pen to measure whether the patch cord is lit and confirm that the optical fiber is not broken. Then use the plug back loss instrument to test. General carrier level test indicators: insertion loss is less than 0.3dB, and return loss is greater than 45dB.

The performance test of fiber optic patch cord is divided into:

    1. Optical performance test

Including the return loss/insertion loss test. The test instrument can use the return loss/insertion loss integrated tester.

    2. End face geometry test

The parameters tested include a radius of curvature, vertex offset, fiber height, etc. The test instrument is an interferometer.

    3. Scratch detection of the optical fiber end face

The video optical fiber magnifying glass can give the clearest image for observation, and the operation is effortless. Some customers also use a variable magnification to detect. The instrument integrates 400, 200, and 80 magnification, which can clearly and conveniently observe the end face of optical fiber and plug-in end face. Of course, you can also use relevant software for automatic inspection.

    4. Optical fiber tension test

It is necessary to test the tensile force that the optical fiber connector can withstand.

    5. Ambient temperature experiment

It is necessary to test the performance index of optical fiber connectors under different ambient temperatures.
